#NYFW How to Get Invited to New York Fashion Week

I’ve been blogging since 2007 and have yet to attend one of the Fashion Week shows in New York. Why? Well, I’ve been busy blogging about Denver Fashion, my local fashion community. I like to say fashion for a good cause is my real passion and supporting local Denver designers is my love affair. However, after seven years of attending and covering a good number of runway shows in town, I’m currently on break (since 2014). I’m letting the new bloggers and other media have at it for now. I like supporting local but it’s really a lot of work, mostly unpaid too. I blogged, managed writers, did photography—To our credit, First Class Fashionista is known for producing quality work and nothing less. We even produced a charity fashion show called Denver Paint the Runway. Read our glowing reviews on Facebook here. Toot, toot goes the horn, lol. I hope you don’t mind. I really enjoy my own sense of humor. Blogging should be fun, right? I’m getting back to the basics.

So I am on hiatus from attending Denver fashion shows and thinking about how to get into the best shows at NYFW. You know, the shows we’ve been writing about all these years here! If you are a designer, publication or Fashion Week PR contact, feel free to shoot me an invite. I already have a place to stay because my daughter goes to school and works in the city and I can book a flight easy. I just need to get invited.

Now, fashionista, you and I both know we can’t wait around to get invited to shows, so I’ve rounded up some of the best advice on how to get into the best ones. Remember timeliness is uber important. Start reaching out six to eight weeks in advance. Click the viewer below for tips on how to write a letter to request an invite, what to title your email’s subject line and much, much more.

My Look for the Show Us How You Southlands Blogger Event and Challenge

It sounded like a lot of fun so, you know me, I was in. On July 30th, I drove an hour to be a part of the first-ever “Show Us How You Southlands” VIP blogger event and $100 shopping spree challenge at Southlands Mall. Hey, well, what fashionista do you know passes up the chance to score a new outfit and show it off, too?! When I arrived, I was greeted by hosts Joyce and Megan. They were both very friendly and welcoming–AND, they had gift bags for us.

gift bag

The event started at 10am. We filled up on complimentary coffee and baked goods at Legends Coffee, which is owned by Jacob & Tabitha Wickline. After breakfast, Joyce and Megan told us about Southlands. The mall will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on October 8th. I like that it has a really good mix of national retailers and locally owned boutiques and shops. What’s more? I’m really impressed with Southlands’ role in their community. It’s a place where people not only go to shop and eat, they get to hang out with their neighbors at fun events. Families can enjoy free movies, concerts, festivals and more.

Now on to the challenge. All of the participating bloggers were given a $100 Southlands gift card and exactly two hours to shop. Wish me luck! The blogger who can “Show Us How You Southlands” the best will receive an additional $250 Southlands gift card and the opportunity to take over the mall’s social media channels for a weekend…This day ended with a beautiful rooftop patio luncheon catered by restaurants like Bad Daddy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, McAlister’s, McCabes, Noodles & Company and Which Wich–Then, we had one week to submit our blog posts!

My ‘Show Us How You Southlands’ Look

As I am writing this, I’m sitting in the airport on the way to New York City to see my daughter. She’s currently on break from college and only works a half a day, so it will be an exciting time to catch up and do “girly” things like more shopping. So, with my $100 gift card, I put together an outfit for my NYC trip. I definitely wanted to try to rock the “Show Us How You Southlands” challenge, but traveling in something comfortable was equally important to me. I also wanted to get an outfit I would enjoy wearing again and again, and that’s what I got.

Before going to the airport, I met my husband at the Marriott for lunch and a photo opp to show you my look from New York & Company at Southlands. The pretty green heels and all of the accessories are included; except the clutch. The clutch is from Charming Charlie. I spent a total of $76 bucks and some change at New York & Company and $22 at Charming Charlie. Can you believe it? New York & Company was having an amazing, store-wide sale of 50% off everything!!!

Then it was time to say goodbye…After a few more pics, of course. Shout out to everyone who helped organize and execute this blogger event and challenge. Joyce and Megan, thanks bunches. It was a huge success! I’m out.

Sometime later, my pup and I made it to NYC and I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my look! Traveling in style is How I Southlands.

What Fashion Bloggers Get Paid to Post to Instagram

It’s astonishing what leading digital influencers are making collaborating with brands on Instagram. Reportedly, on average, top fashion bloggers are getting paid $15,000 to $25,000 for a social share on IG. And, It Girls like Kendell Jenner and Gigi Hadid can be paid up to $300,000.

I’ve been blogging since 2007, so I can recall when bloggers felt taken advantage of. If we were offered anything, it was free stuff; but free stuff don’t pay bills, right? I think there is absolutely no wrong in working with companies sharing your values. Magazines need advertisers and, hey, so do bloggers. There are expenses to running a blog and many of us have made creating content our job. I say I love to know it first, try it first and share it with you, our valued readers, first. My opinion is that collaborations are usually a resource for both bloggers and their readers.

We Loved the Meghan Trainor Untouchable Tour Concert Sponsored By Tampax and Always Radiant #WearWhatYouWant

Meghan Trainor Concert VIP Experience
Meghan Trainor Untouchable Tour VIP Experience

On Tuesday, July 26th at the Bellco Theatre in Denver, Colorado, your very own First Class Fashionista had the privilege to see Meghan Trainor live in concert as a VIP guest!Tampax was a proud sponsor of this sold out concert and had a very unique set up within the lobby of the theatre. Tampax and Always Radiant had a booth dedicated to the ladies where they could try on Meghan Trainor’s dresses and shoes.

There was also a photo booth available to take pictures while wearing the looks. If you want to see more pictures, the hashtag was #WearWhatYouWant. The inspiration for this sponsor and the onsite booth was young girls and women can stay confident in their favorite looks with the radiant collection.

Wear What You Want Tampax

As the show began at 7:00pm, there were two artists who performed before Meghan Trainor. The first to perform were the Common Kings; a Reggae band from Costa Mesa, CA. The Common Kings really enticed the stage for the night. They put everyone at ease with their relaxed catchy tunes.

Common Kings

I have to say their music was very age appropriate for the group of people attending. Most of the people at this concert were young ladies from age 4-18.

The next special guest was Hailee Steinfeld. You might recognize Hailee from her very popular song “Love Myself”. She is not only a musician, but she has also been in quite a few movies. To name a few: Pitch Perfect 2, True Grit, Term Life, and 3 Days to Kill. Hailee has more of a pop tone to her music. She was a great artist to open the stage up for Meghan Trainor.

Hailee Steinfeld

As Meghan Trainor hit the stage, the crowd went wild! I almost wonder if they were as loud as at a Justin Bieber concert? Trainor opened the stage with her song, “Woman Up”…The theme throughout her concert was GIRL POWER, CONFIDENCE and the importance of family and friends. Alongside Trainor were some amazing back up dancers who were on point the entire night.

A few classic songs she sang were: Me Too, All About That Bass, Like I’m Gonna Lose You ft. JR King, Dear Future Husband and Lips Are Movin.

Hopeless Romantic

If you met Trainor in a full room of people, she would not strike you as a woman with a $2 million dollar networth. She would strike you as a down to earth girl who is bubbly and excited for life. She also sang her songs “Mom” and “Dance Like Yo Daddy”, both of these songs shared how important her family is to her.

Another song she performed was about her friends. During this song, there were images of her and her actual friends having a great time doing normal activities girls her age should be doing. This goes to show that she has a tight knit group of friends who have supported her through her entire journey. In so many of these clips, she was working in the studio, showing how hard she has worked to get where she is today.

During the concert, First Class Fashionista discovered a secret talent of Ms. Meghan Trainor that we didn’t know about- She can play the banjo. During her performance of “Just a Friend to You” she showed all her fans how truly talented she is.

Just a Friend to You

Trainor’s theme throughout the night was very retro; from her catchy tunes, to her multiple wardrobe changes, all the way to the background images. This concert was a blast for me being a 25 year-old-woman. I can only imagine how exciting this concert was for a cute little four-year-old girl, in which, there were quite a few of them at the concert.

Meghan Trainor Style

Something I really enjoyed about this venue was that every seat was a good seat, there was no need for a large projector showing every movement of the artist for people way, WAY in the back. Another thing. During intermission, between Hailee and Trainor, the line for the girl’s bathroom was about ¼ of a mile long…something you don’t see at every concert. All in all, you can see why this concert was sold out. Meghan Trainor has so much talent and is a great influence for the young girls out there trying to find themselves and what is important in life.

As always, thank you so much for reading and please comment below. Shout out to Tampax for sponsoring this event and giving FCF the privilege to attend and cover the show. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN!
