The Ultimate Spring Dress Guide (with Derby Day in Mind)

Everyone in the fashion world should know by now that it’s about to be festival fashion season and with SxSW currently going on, we are reminded just how soon festival season actually is. Speaking of, can you believe it’s about to be April in 2015 already? I guess they don’t say, “time flies by when you are having fun” for no reason, huh?

That said, before summer’s festival glory days are here, there are still some spring events that are, more than likely, going to up your wardrobe’s inventory count. Let me put it into perspective for you. Easter, which just so happens to double as my quarter century birthday this year, is less than 2 weeks away. The Denver Derby (A Kentucky Derby party in Denver) is just over a month away and may I need to remind you, it’s also about to be wedding season.

Which, who knows, maybe you’re going to the actual Kentucky Derby or maybe you are keeping it local. Maybe you are in a wedding or two this year or maybe you are a guest attendee of several ceremonies, or perhaps you’re making it your mission to crash a few (you’re welcome for the great idea). The point is fashionistas, bottoms up because it’s our time to shine while we look top of the line!

Make a Classic Statement – only make it classier and fancier.

Fortunately, wearing white is no longer about “when” you can wear it or even where you are “allowed” to wear it. No, the ridiculous fashion rules about when you can wear white are luckily ancient history now. I think it is safe to say that white will forever be one of the top two classic hues in our wardrobe. What’s more, is that no one wants to stop wearing white, not now, and probably not ever.

Respectively, no one wants to wear a “been done” or “seen that” dull and mundane look either. The fact of the matter is that wearing white has just as much class as it always has. The only difference is the taste-makers of today’s contemporary fashions are wearing it better and fashionably classier — and I hate to say it, but it’s working.

Give Your Stark White Look an Upgrade

Start with some simple modern touches and add a delicious splash of lush color. This will help diminish some of the innocence and instantly modernize your attire. Another great trick to tease up your gorgeous white silhouettes is by mixing in hints of “dainty” with flirty florals and other divine prints. Oh! And, don’t be scared of textures, shapes or cut-outs either – especially not when today’s tasteful cut-outs are seriously more adorable than ever! Simply put, if you are going to wear white – wear it 2015 style. Keep it interesting, classically appealing and ever so feminine.

The dress below might not be filled with rich color or fun patterns and prints, but it sure does spark interest with quite the alluring twist! Don’t forget, you can always add pops of color as you wish.

Springs Desires = summer’s perfections.

Allow these delicate spring touches into your wardrobe and I can ensure you that you will be stylishly ready-to-go and not just for spring, but all summer long. And, that’s just another fashion bonus. By fancying a classic white look, you will magically turn springs desires into summers perfections. Moral of the story; be bold, forge new style directions and reinvent white. I dare you.

The (almost white) spring dress collection shown below, shows nothing but a sheer style of the contemporary ideal. Whether you are shopping for Easter, The Derby Party, my Birthday party, or simply shopping in honor of the season, here are a few of my favorites!

Personality and Perception Quizzes: What’s Your Personality Type?

When visiting my cousin last week, we got into the topic of “What have you been up to lately?” Her answer was rather interesting and lead me onto changing the way I think about myself and others. Knowing your personality type can help you understand why you behave the way you do during almost any situation. By understanding others personality types, you can have a better understanding to why others act or react the way they do in certain situations to you.

As human beings, we wear different masks that we show to the world. We have a mask we put on at work when we are with customers and co-workers, a mask that we wear at home that we show to close friends and family, and another mask that we wear in our alone time, that we only show to ourselves. People can decide which masks they wear in society (some may even say way we are immune to wearing certain masks in public), if we didn’t, we couldn’t function in society.

According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), there are sixteen different psychological types. These types show the various mental processes we as humans are made up of. They reveal the different ways we understand reality. Knowing your personality type can help you discover what motivates you, defeats you, and energizes you as an individual.

How to determine your personality type?:

There are sixteen personality types that are broken into four categories:

(E) Extroversion and Introversion (I)

These two categories show how we interact with the world and how we direct our energy. Extroversion means you connect more to the world of people and things outside of you. Where Introversion relates more to ideas and concepts in your own mind and how you perceive the world.

(S) Sensing and Intuition (N)

These two categories show what kind of information we naturally notice. Sensing is when you use all five senses in the present. Intuition is when one uses more of their imagination to have insight on the present.

(T) Thinking and Feeling (F)

This category shows how we make decisions and come to conclusions. Thinkers make their decisions based on impersonal logic, whereas feelers make their decisions based on personal feelings and values.

For example: You are interviewing two people for a position at your work. One person is overly qualified for the position, but doesn’t need the money as much as the other candidate. The other candidate is less qualified for the position, but needs the money. You would be a thinker if you hired the overly qualified candidate whom doesn’t need the money as much as the second candidate. You would be a feeler if you hire the less qualified candidate whom does need the money.

(J) Judging and Perceiving (P)

This category shows the way we in all honesty like to live our lives. Judgers like to have things decided, planned and in order. They live their lives with structure and probably have a planner on them at all times, whereas perceivers live life on the edge. They are spontaneous, flexible and open-minded.

You can find some amazing quizzes online that will help you discover what personality you convey. How you handle a mutual, conflict and resolution partnership is up to who you are and what you know. The questions are unusually very abstract. So make sure you understand what is being asked and have very few distractions while taking the quiz. After taking a quiz, you might test into one of the various sixteen personality types: ISFP, INFP, ESFP, ESTJ…etc. If your results fall into the personality type of ISFP, then you are likely like me!

ISFP (Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, and Perceiving)

Some characteristics that describe an ISFP:

  • Energized by quiet surroundings
  • Pays close attention to facts and details
  • Prioritizes people and emotions
  • Flexible and loves freedom, they don’t like to plan or organize
  • Modest, observant and understanding
  • Lives in the moment and finds beauty in everyday findings
  • Good with their hands (loves working with tools to create art)
  • Thoughtful and accommodating
  • These people enjoy supporting roles rather than being in the spotlight
  • This type is seen more in women, then men!
  • Careers that might be great for ISFP’s include: teaching, nursing, social work, cosmetology and fitness
  • Hobbies include: Art and active hobbies like swimming and dancing

Interesting facts about ISFP’s:

  • Most likely to report heart disease and hypertension.
  • Among the types, they are the least likely to stay in college.
  • Most likely of all types to report stress with finances and children!!!

Tis the spring and summer festival season, and I am oh so jolly! Inspired by hippies, I thrive on western vibes quite naturally. This artistry collection I’ve put together is a mixture of west coast animation and cool-girl touches with a dash of modern day flair. Don’t you just love spring for it’s easy-going transitional season with a weightlessness feel? I do. When the sun is so beautifully shinning, I can’t help myself but to be outside every chance I get! Ah, spring, thank you for the fresh breath of warm weather you have brought to us, you (spring) have officially drenched my sun-chasing spirit back into existence and I can already feel the vitality flowing through my skin (the best source for vitamin D). If you are reading this, I am assuming you feel the same. If so, perk up even more because with these ready-to-go colorful looks, you’ll be chasing the sun or perhaps even waterfalls before you know it!

Along with the change of season, lies a plethora of upcoming events such as festivals, concerts, outdoor shows, markets, etc. Which also means, of course, new wardrobe purchases! With festival season soon approaching, this west coast-chic inspired collection just so happens to not only be perfect for your festival jams, but all of these must-haves are also quintessential pieces that your wardrobe needs in your summer closet.

Let’s be honest, every fashionista needs to have an ultra-chic, drapey silhouette of some sort and definitely an asymmetric statement skirt, right? I think so, but if your not up-to-date, it’s okay, just click the links below and get to it! Better now than never.

For the true festival bound crowd, do you know the official rules of a festival wardrobe? In case you don’t, let me brief you. In the pursuit of frolic, let there be fringe! It’s a definite must do, trust me. That said, get your boho look on so you can get to rockin’ and rollin’.

Rather you decide on the destroyed boyfriend denim with the For Love and Lemons Bra Top and the ASOS Kimono or perhaps you decide on an adorable hippie tunic and some to die for ankle booties, either way, your natural feminine sexy side will wear just as effortlessly. All this means is that you can pretty much guarantee that everyone will be dying to know where you got your outfit, which I am pretty sure is among a fashionistas favorite things.

And hey, who knows, maybe you’ll even go backstage and show off that outfit! Just think of lovely things and you’ll have a lovely, classy time. Now, go chase some sun and all those fun festivals waiting just for you!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo 2015

MBFWT

Can’t get enough fashion? Fret not, because this week began one of my personal favorites- the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo.

Yay! I love global fashion, but I do tend to affiliate myself closely with my Japanese counterparts. Tokyo fashion week never fails to produce awe-inspiring and out-of-the-box shows to delight and inspire. The only bad thing is the dramatic time zone difference, which never fails to confuse me when I’m trying to figure out when the days are happening there.

Meredes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo

The show opened with a fantastic spectacle. Thai label Sretsis transformed the runway into a whimsical labyrinth. Set in the trend-forward Shibuya district, organizers placed their faith in Sretsis to help pinpoint Tokyo as the headliner for Asian fashion. Good call.

MBFWT

This year, expect to see a lot of similar shows- each designer is able to choose their own theme and go with it. The director of international affairs at Japan Fashion Week confirmed that every runway show would be “completely different — there’s no one theme or concept”.

 Fashion Week

Since it does not yet attract the staple couture houses and names we see in Paris, Milan, and New York, Tokyo Fashion Week presents us with the unique opportunity to see fresh, young designers as they enter the scene.

Check out the full schedule, photos, and videos on the Official Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo page, here.

The Apple of Anti-Aging: Nu Skin Facial Spa Review and Testimonials

Nu Skin Facial Spa

When a beautiful model from your hometown wants to let you in on a beauty secret, you listen up. Not a wrinkle or noticeable flaw in sight, in person at my house or on the runway, Oumou Diacko first learned about the Nu Skin Facial Spa through friends and was quickly convinced that people everywhere needed to know about it.

Knowing of Oumou’s career and her accomplished educational background in the healthcare field, the first question I asked is why she wanted to get the news out about this specific product.

Well, I had to share because I’ve never seen a product work the way the facial spa does. I mean it’s impressive. It actually removes wrinkles in less than 10 minutes. When you first hear about it, it’s amazing. It’s like something I’ve never seen…I never thought a machine could do,” she said. Take a moment to look at the video.

Oumou invited me to a regional Nu Skin information meeting and presentation so I could see for myself what Nu Skin was all about. The company is said to be the Apple of anti-aging! With over 30 years of anti-aging genetic research, it has received a number of impressive awards for its revolutionary ageLOC innovations. From what I’ve seen and heard, the Nu Skin Facial Spa is amazing. It works at the cellular level to reset gene expression to a more youthful state, thus locking in your current age (ageLOC) and setting back the clock. Exciting, right? Well, I did my homework. Scientists have long been able to turn certain genes on and off, for example.

Antioxidant Scanner

To get started, you might want to try out the Biophotonic Scanner featured on the Dr. Oz Show. It will help you find out if you are getting enough antioxidants to slow the process and signs of aging. Antioxidants prevent the formation of free radicals, which can cause diseases like cancer. I learned Nu Skin even has patented vitamins, called LifePak Nano, to improve your overall health and increase your antioxidant levels. This I really, really liked. We could all live to be 120 something years old.

nu skin vitamins

During the presentation, I was impressed with the Nu Skin product demonstrations. Nu Skin’s beauty products are natural, contain essential vitamins and amino acids, and they won’t disrupt the skin’s pH balance. The Nu Skin Facial Spa comes with a gel to stimulate and penetrate deep into the skin’s layers to promote cell regeneration. It can be used up to 3x a week, but you will notice diminished lines right away. In just 20 minutes, you’ll look 10 years younger. I love this commercial!

Now look at these half face demonstration pictures. All over the news, and around the world, reporters are talking about how Nu Skin is willing to do just one side of the face to show people the dramatic difference the facial spa has. The first one is Oumou’s friend and a true fan of Nu Skin. The right side of her face (pictured on the left side of the photo) was treated. See the difference after only one session? Her eye is lifted and the laugh line is softer.

Nu Skin testimonials

The maximum change will happen in about 8 to 12 weeks with the return of collagen and elastin. Below, Brenda saw dramatic results after only 5 weeks of spa treatments. Wow! So, Nu Skin’s slogan IS, “The difference demonstrated.” Amazing.

Nu Skin Testimonials

Once your treatments are complete, Nu Skin’s True Face Essence Ultra blue pearl serum will help keep your skin firm and youthful looking.

Nu Skin Tru Face

Finally, Oumou told me personally that the most important reason she is involved with Nu Skin is because of the company’s charitable efforts. Started in 2002, Nu Skin’s Nourish the Children initiative has donated over 400 million meals to end hunger.

Nourish the Children

“This is close to my heart. They’ve saved the lives of millions of children who would have died of malnourishment. This is the reason why I love the company, as well as the new technologies they come up with – which are not found anywhere else,” Oumou shares.

Victoria Jackson Makeup Tutorial and Review

When I heard about the chance to do another makeup review, of course I jumped at it. Did you see my CoverGirl Girls’s Can inspired look? Who doesn’t love trying on something new? I love the adventure of the unknown; will it be a cool new look, a learning experience, or a total disaster? Plus, the brand- Victoria Jackson – is really about enhancing your natural beauty. I can really get behind that. Although I often feel envious of the YouTube tutorial divas and the cosmetic counter girls, I just don’t feel right when I put that much or that kind of makeup on my face. Ultimately, like so many of us, I just want to put my best self forward and look like I tried a little bit to get myself together.

“When you look better, you feel better. And when you feel better, you can change your life.”

My inner-feminist cringes a little bit at the mission statement, but the realist in me acknowledges that it is true. I know that when I look icky, I feel icky. And, vice-versa. Most mornings, I just want to look a little more awake and alert, and that is the exact style of makeup Victoria Jackson is about.

“A dot of foundation here, a subtle pencil stroke there, the light dusting of blush. And you’re ready. Ready for the day. For life. For anything.”

Um, yes. I want to be ready for anything! So, without further ado, here is my makeup tutorial slash review of the Victoria Jackson Cosmetics product line.

makeup blogger

For this review, I was provided with the Foundation Duo, Perfect Everyday Blush, Lush Mascara, and a Gentle Face & Eye Makeup Remover. I chose colors that were appropriate to my skin tone, and I suggest that you think about the lightness or darkness of your skin and whether you are warm or cold when selecting colors for yourself. There aren’t a lot of different ones to choose from, which is nice because they are intended to be very light and therefore flatter all. The products even came with a hand-written note! I adore personal touches like this!

makeup blogger

makeup blogger

I started with a clean and moisturized face. Shocker, I colored my hair again and- another shock- I look sleepy from my regular 6 hours of snoozetime. I pulled my bangs away in the photos, so you could see more of my face.

While applying the Foundation Duo, I noticed that it was definitely different from most things that I have tried before. The consistency is much more solid and creamy than the liquids and BB creams I usually apply. The 2-toned system was nice to find a better match for my skin color and the sponge allowed for pretty smooth application. I do recommend using warm fingers to blend the foundation in around the nose and similar angled patches to avoid that “makeup” look.

Victoria Jackson Makeup blogger

Victoria Jackson Blogger

After the application my skin looked pretty good. The downside is that I was a little broken out, so I had to go back and use a small brush to apply a little more foundation to my problem spots. I feel like this foundation definitely needs a powder to help set it. I did not receive one, so I used my regular semi-sheer powder but Victoria Jackson does have a pressed powder of their own that is really inexpensive, which can be found here.

Victoria Jackson Makeup

Next on the agenda was to try the blush. I got the “Garden” color to try and bring out my freckles more. A couple of puffs with a clean brush and BAM. All set. The blush is really opaque, so a little bit goes a long way! I can see this lasting for a long time.

mascara review

mascara tutorial

Last up was a makeup staple. The mascara. I am actually IN LOVE with the Lush Mascara in black. The application results in longer, darker, and fuller eyelashes with really minimal effort. I’m already using this every single day. A great grab-and-go.

Victoria Jackson makover

As you can see, the overall look is exactly what they claimed. It’s still obviously me and my skin, but a little more even, a little brighter, and a little more awake. I definitely felt more confident after application.

Victoria Jackson review

The makeup remover also does a good job of removing the cosmetics, but I recommend a soft cloth or sponge. I didn’t have much luck with my go-to of cotton balls.

If you are more of a video tutorial learner, Victoria Jackson has a lot of official sort of how-tos for their makeup. Mine loosely follows the video below.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with the products. I have a difficult skin tone, so I don’t know if I will continue to use the foundation more than occasionally, but I loved the creamy coverage it gave me. The blush and the mascara have already gone into my on-the-go cosmetics bag! Their Victoria Jackson “Survival Kit” is one of their most well-received bundles on the internet, and I think with the addition of brushes and some powders, this would be an excellent investment for anyone interested in trying out the line. The Survival Kit is inexpensive, so you can get a feel for the products before you go all-in! For a limited time, get 25% off your order using this exclusive online promo code: LOVEVJC when shopping the Victoria Jackson website here.
