Jennifer Lawrence for Miss Dior Campaign

Jennifer Lawrence the New Face of Dior
Miss Dior Jennifer Lawrence
After the Oscars this past week, Jennifer Lawrence has been a name all over entertainment news. Not only was she ridiculously adorable during her several interviews after getting the award for Best Actress, but the leading lady looked absolutely stunning at the ceremony. This year looks like a very promising one for the star with several new movies on the way, in addition to being the new elegant face of the Miss Dior Campaign.
At the young age of 22, the new Hollywood it-girl signed with the fashion giant in October of last year, replacing fellow actress Mila Kunis as the face of the campaign. Dior seems to have a knack for scooping up the most glamorous and lovable divas in Hollywood with faces like Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron.
The French fashion house released a video this past week of the beauty on set of the campaign photo shoot accompanied by Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre and a team of talented hair and make-up artists. The charming actress is shown wearing garments from the label’s Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection, including a black trouser suit, a white tuxedo dress, a netted veil and several key designs from the Miss Dior handbag line.
Check out the video of the shoot below!

The Truth About Your Horoscope

The Lowdown on Horoscopes
This year, I’ve joined the ranks of daily horoscope checking hopefuls, and grown accustom to logging onto shine.yahoo.com so that I can read the insightful blurb written by some all-knowing stranger. Apparently, my future can be foretold by one man’s interpretation of the positions of angles between planets and other astrological elements.
winter star party pictures
Winter Star Party 2007 Refractor 3103
The truth is, I’m not a big believer in the whole horoscope phenomenon, yet for some reason I still find myself checking the Taurus page to discover what obstacles or surprises I may encounter in the near future. Like so many others, I find it amusing to compare my horoscope forecast to what actually happens throughout my day. But given the lack of proof that horoscopes hold any truth at all, why is it that so many are willing to keep buying into something so ambiguous?
A horoscope is actually a diagram that portrays the positions of the sun, moon, planets, and the angles they make during a specific event or point in time. The “astrologers” interpret these astrological elements, though interpretations often vary and also differ between traditions. For example, the Chinese horoscope is translated differently than that of the Mayans. They also have different signs, each representing a group of people who share similar personality traits. Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence to support the accuracy of horoscopes.
Each zodiac sign is assigned a list of common traits that can easily persuade one into thinking, “Oh yes, that sounds like me”, due to the fact that there is bound to be at least a few characteristics that they can identify with. But we are human. We all possess and share a variety of qualities. I may be a Taurus, but who’s to say I don’t share the same traits as a Capricorn?
picture of zodiac signs
Zodiac Signs
Now, the average online horoscope includes insight into your love life and career, two aspects of life that many value most. When someone goes online to check their daily horoscope, they are not expecting a direct telling of their future, but rather they’re looking for all the possibilities the day may have to offer them. Many are in search of hope that life will get better, that there is something to look forward to. Part of the appeal also comes from the common desire to have more control over our futures, more guidance to help us in making everyday decisions. There are plenty of control freaks in this world, many of whom will do anything to get the odds of life in their favor.
The danger lies within those who whole-heartedly believe that horoscopes are usually correct in their predictions and advice. People who live their lives according to what these anonymous astrologers say, may miss out on the opportunities that come with risk. Online and magazine horoscopes are often made general on purpose so that the forecasts they provide may be applicable to as many people as possible. This way, more are willing to believe in the accuracy of horoscopes, and in turn, these publications and sites get more readers.
Horoscopes are so accessible that getting insight into your life is just a click away. What troubles me is that they can be so general to the point of being meaningless. And who is writing these predictions? How do we know that they aren’t completely made up by some random with a knack for fabrication? However, many still find horoscopes to be insightful, though it all depends on the interpretation of the reader. In the end, we are all entitled to create our own paths in life, decide our own fates. It is silly to let a system that is so indefinite dictate how we view ourselves and the situations we find ourselves in. Despite all these concerns, I will continue to read my horoscope not only because I find it entertaining, but also because that tiny glimmer of possibility is alluring.

Oscars 2013 Inspired Looks For Everyday Life

Don’t get me wrong, I love reading what everyone has to say about the red carpet moments, Fashion Police is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. But when I truly think about it, what does it do for me? In today’s day and age, we do things for benefit and purpose. That is why, after I wrote my post about my favorite looks, I decided to find dresses that I feel have some elements of what the best dressed nominees were wearing…and you can buy them straight from here! I wanted to mix the element of pleasure (celeb fashion observing) with benefit (style tips and inspiration). Below are my favorite Oscars 2013 looks (My Best Dressed) with names and designers from top to bottom and left to right.
Oscars Best Dresses

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive, Stacy Keibler in Naaem Khan, Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab, Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture, Samantha Barks in Valentino, and Halle Berry in Versace.
Now here are two items for each woman that I think draw similarities to their beautiful looks. At first I was looking for gowns and formal dresses, but instead I decided to choose practical pieces that any girl could wear to lots of places and events. These women choose these dresses for a reason, so why not incorporate some of their features into your personal style!?
Naomi Watts:
The most beautiful blend of sequins and cutouts that I have seen all year. She looks flawless and so Hollywood Glam.

Click to Shop Dark Side Dress

Nasty Gal at POPSUGAR Shopping

CUT OUTS! Since they are all the rage this season, especially on the red carpet, Nasty Gal is your go to shop for this trend. Naomi figured out how to do this look in such a classically beautiful way, and she did it delicately. This dress from NG is a little more blunt, but with the right shoe (like a bootie or even combat) you can make this look sexy and carefree. Confidence is always key.

Click to Shop ASOS Maxi Dress in Sequin

Asos at POPSUGAR Shopping

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this dress. You may think it’s just a night on the town sort of thing… but no ma’am. Pair this perfectly mermaid  midi with some camel or beige pumps, slip a vintage tee over the top, knot that baby up, then finish it with a blazer and some round sunnies and you’ve got yourself a fashion forward look for the day.
Stacy Keibler:
First of all, I would like to bring attention to this neckline… my favorite thing right now. So flattering and so fresh. Stacy is such a bombshell, but she always modestly hones in on it and graces the carpet with class. This dress has edge, but the perfect amount. Everything from the beading, to the cascading bodice screams perfection.

Click to Shop Parker Dress Architect Beads

Parker at POPSUGAR Shopping

This dress is the perfect color and beading style to mimic Stacy’s in an everyday light. The other great thing about it, is the fact that it comes in white (for added variety). I love the baby-doll structure because it balances out the length and lack of sleeve.

Click to Shop Spring Reflection Dress

Nasty Gal at POPSUGAR Shopping

Once again, Nasty Gal always being on top of their trend game, has plenty of these Jewel or Illusion necklines, and this second dress is the perfect way to translate that into your spring wardrobe.
Sandra Bullock:
Sandra Bullock is a lace sensation. Since spring is near, I decided to give you a little bit more color. Sandra’s dress and color is absolutely perfect for the occasion, but sometimes when you use black lace, it can look too night-y. If that’s what you’re looking for then great! I just wanted to mix up the options. Sandra’s dress shows the perfect amount of skin, demonstrates the right amount of modesty and fits her body like a glove. A++

Click to Shop Devotion Maxi Dress

Nasty Gal at POPSUGAR Shopping

Although not fully lace, this dress pulls parts from Sandra’s. Perfect for the daytime and perfect for summer, this maxi has the same fit and amount of sexy and modesty as our fabulous movie stars.

With a little bit more lace, this dress shows the same kind of peek-a-poo skin as Bullocks red carpet look. Beautifully flowy and just the right color for spring.
Charlize Theron:
A vision in white…and not the bride kind. My mouth dropped open when I saw her come out in this. Perfectly… PER.FECT.LY. tailored, crisp, vivid color and a to-die-for peplum, Charlize was rocking a show-stopper.

Click to Shop Elle Peplum Dress

Nasty Gal at POPSUGAR Shopping

This little number looks almost identical to the red carpet look. Same color, neckline and waist. The draped sleeves and the shortened hem makes this piece perfect for any fashionista off the carpet.
Peplum Mesh Romper
Peplum Mesh Romper
I own this wonderful piece of clothing, and dare I say it’s one of my favorite owned items. With a little spin on what Charlize is wearing, this romper speaks confidence and fashion forward. Similar neckline (just below the mesh) and that infamous peplum, this piece is the perfect way to mimic Theron in your own way.
Samantha Barks:
While watching Les Miserables, I kept wondering who the GORGEOUS girl playing the background role was. I seriously stared at her every time she sang and wondered why that was the first time I was seeing her. Well fashionistas, she proved her undying beauty once again on the red carpet. I am a sucker for plunging necklines. You have to be careful though, if you have a larger chest. I, however, was not so blessed in that area, so I do this look a lot (with a more modest bottom half of course). I loved the simplicity and effortlessness of her look and she looked INCREDIBLE.

Click to Shop Love Maxi Dress With Plunge Neck and Cut Out

Love at POPSUGAR Shopping

ASOS makes an almost exact replica of this look for a fraction of the price. Just the right amount of sexy here.

Click to Shop For Love & Lemons Little Lover Dress

undefined

With this different color, this dress is perfect for daytime if you wear a sandal or some Chucks. Add the tights like above and some booties, and you can wear it at night.
Halle Berry:
Last, but certainly not least, Halle may have been my best dressed. This dress was the perfect balance of every red carpet necessary element. It also doesn’t hurt that she is implementing my favorite 2013 trend; the suit look. Varied stripes, black and gold, plunging neckline, perfect length, and just-right sleeve choice, were a few of the things that made Halle look so flawless.

Click to Shop Battle Lines Dress

Nasty Gal at POPSUGAR Shopping

Stripes, gold, neckline…check. This dress infuses all the right elements of Halle’s Versace look into your go-to night out number. This piece is obviously on my NG want list.

Click to Shop River Island Pencil Dress In Stripe

River Island at POPSUGAR Shopping

I have yet to add an office, or work world dress yet, so here you go. Not only great for a meeting, but this dress  can double as a cocktail number or your go-to happy hour look. Paired with a colored clutch and some strappy heels, this look takes what we love from Halle’s to our everyday lives with poise and smarts.
Hope you guys loved all of my suggestions and advice!
Until next time,
Chelsey

Madonna’s Instagram Violation and Warning Controversy

Madonna on Instagram
Hello Madonna,
It has come to our attention that your account on Instagram has violated our Community Guideline…In short we ask that you: Don’t share photos that aren’t yours…It is important to note that continuing to violate these rules may result in a disabled account, without warning.
Thanks,
The Instagram Team
This is an excerpt of the notice that was sent to Madonna regarding her Instagram account a few weeks ago. According to a source, not only did she not learn a lesson from this warning, but she posted a screenshot of the warning on Instagram. Supposedly, the 54 year-old pop icon received this notice after posting semi-revealing photos of her breasts and butt; along with photos that resemble the Spanish artist Frida Kahlo, in which Madonna did not to own, but seemed to try and pass them off as herself. Another surprising detail about this controversy, Frida Kahlo died four years before Madonna was born. In this photo, she is wearing an Altuzarra forest green poly-leather and a mink cap-sleeved “Tribeca” dress. Apparently, this dress was worn to the 85th Academy Awards After Party on Sunday.
Currently, Madonna has more than 170K Instagram followers. Hopefully for the Instagram fans, this pop icon will respond in defense and have a great answer for this shocking news. Check out the screen shot below! What do you think?

Favorite Brit Awards 2013 Looks

Like I’ve mentioned in past posts, I am obsessed with award shows! So obsessed in fact, I even find a way to watch awards that aren’t broadcasted in the U.S. The Brit Awards were held at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday, and luckily I found a live stream online so I could watch too! Of course, as I’ve said before, my favorite part of awards shows is seeing what all the stars were wearing, and the Brits did not disappoint! I usually focus on what women were wearing to these types of shows, but I absolutely loved how many of the men were dressed. There’s just something about those British boys… Here were my favorite looks from the show.
the brit awards red carpet
Taylor Swift in Elie Saab. T Swift’s fashion is always a hit or miss with me, but lately I’ve been loving her red carpet style. Taylor has gone the more daring route, and I’m loving it! I’m obsessed with the high slits in this dress. All the leg being shown is balanced out by the high neckline, making the dress sexy but still appropriate.
Brit Awards

One Direction suited in Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Topman, ASOS, and Kurt Geiger. These boys always look stylish and put together, and they are extremely good looking (Hello Harry Styles!). I love how they are all color coordinated, while each still having their own style. Any Fashionista would be lucky to walk the red carpet with these guys.
the brit awards
Jourdan Dunn in Balmain. I’m sure it’s hard for Jourdan Dunn to look bad in anything, but I am loving this lemon yellow mini dress on her! Her amazing legs go on for days, so why not show them off? The color goes so well with her skin tone. The embellishments on the dress, as well as the off the shoulder neckline, gives this dress a high fashion look; and when you’re a super model, you can definitely get away with showing that much skin!
Brit Awards Red Carpet
Alexa Chung in Valentino. Alexa Chung is one of my biggest style icons, and this playsuit is just one example of why. She kept the look very simple; but the embellishment on the playsuit and the Jimmy Choo pumps, brought the whole look together. This is totally something I would wear on a night out.
Brit Awards Red Carpet
Jessie J in Versace. Jessie J embraced one of my favorite trends, the plunging neckline and I think she pulled it off. This Versace dress is from the autumn/winter 2013 line and paired with a gold belt and Jimmy Choos, I think she kept it simple but extremely classy.
Brit Awards Red Carpet
Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford. I am so extremely excited about JT’s return to music and award shows because I’m a huge fan of his music, as well as his impeccable fashion sense. Mr. Timberlake always looks dapper and I’m loving that he went with a grey suit instead of the typical black.
Brit Awards Red Carpet
Aluna Francis in Theysken’s Theory. This was probably one of my favorite looks of the night. I’m all about sequins, but what I love about this dress is how it becomes more and more sheer as it flows towards the ground. I’m loving the mesh look right now. My favorite parts about this dress are the sleeves and the leg slits that show skin, but in a classy way.
Brit Awards Red Carpet
Little Mix, all in different designs. UK X Factor winners, Little Mix, looked adorable on the red carpet. They clearly all have their own personal style, but they all wore Kurt Geiger heels. My favorite look out of the four is the white gown with plunging neckline. And I am loving Perrie Edward’s extremely stylish flower crown!
These were my favorite looks from the Brits! Fashionistas, do you agree or did you have other opinions? Let me know!

Red Carpet Looks Coming to JCPenny from Marchesa

As most of us know, JCPenny has been around a long time and recently changed their focus to make the store more modern and up to date with the latest fashion trends. There is a lot up for discussion about JCPenny as a company because, compared to a lot of other department stores, it is not at the top of most people’s shopping list. This company has come up with a lot of new and innovative ideas to bring consumers back. Like other retail stores, they have partnered with a few different, trendy designers to create exclusive clothing lines at affordable prices. So far, JCPenny has teamed up with Nicole Miller and Liz Claiborne, and their looks are great!
The good news is that JCPenny is still reinventing itself. JCP is now teaming up with Georgia Chapman from Marchesa to create a line that is affordable yet elegant. Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa will be placed in over 500 JCPenny stores across the country. Each piece was designed to make women feel like the glamorous stars we see all the time on the red carpet. How exciting!
Marchesa JCpenny
The collection includes a variety of dresses and gowns. Whether you are shopping for prom or a black-tie occasion, there will be a look for you at JCPenny. All the gowns were designed by Georgia Chapman herself. This is a great opportunity for JCPenny to provide options for customers who want designer garments, but at an affordable price. This collection, available online now, will hit stores on March 1st, right in time for prom and wedding season! The price point for this collection ranges from $70.00 to $100.00.

DRESS AGE APPROPRIATE at Any Age

After watching the Oscars, I was having issues coming up with a topic because, as you guys know, I don’t like writing articles about topics that all the other publications are writing about. After posting my dilemma on Facebook asking for help, I got a response from a former professor that I felt needed to be addressed. Jill Gerloff, my professor, mentioned how I should talk about how to dress age appropriate at the Oscars. I LOVE this idea, because you all know a couple people who commit this kind of fashion suicide. But I want to take it one step further and generalize this topic.
With stores like Forever 21 and H&M that have revolutionized the fashion industry with the idea of fashion at affordable prices, people need to understand that these stores are marketing to a specific demographic. While some above the age of 30 might find a hidden gem that fits their style, for the most part the clothes are marketed to individuals between the ages of 18 and late 20s, possibly mid-30s.
I’m a personal believer in something I call the “bell curve” of fashion. As you are young, as in preteen, your style should start pretty conservative in terms of cut and design. Then as you get older your personal style tends to become trendier and more fashion forward, which, nowadays, can translate as revealing. Then as you move out of your 20s and into your 30s, your style should start to revert back to conservative, and give off the essence of grace. And if this change were documented in a mathematical and graphic format, it would look like a bell curve. So for the purpose of this article, I will lay out age ranges and the clothes I feel can be worn appropriately for everyday wear.
12-15: This age range should dress more conservative than the looks seen on the red carpet, and in music videos. This is not to say that one cannot be fashionable. I think this age can rock the most color and the most patterns that normally might be considered tacky, but it works because of the juvenile ages. Playful prints is the name of the game for this age group. Youthful prints such as stars, flowers and other symbols closely associated with this age should be highlighted. Clashing colors can also be done. This age screams freedom. Pink with some neon green and a splash of neon yellow with baby pink is okay. Colorful beanies, striped tops and colorful flats create a perfect and youthful ensemble.

16-17: The reason this range is so small is, as most parents know, 18 is a whole new animal. This is the age when most individuals are trying to find themselves and in that journey they look to the media. For parents, this is all about teaching your children that those celebrities they’re tying to dress like are MUCH older than them, even though they might portray high-schoolers on television. I know parents are going to hate me for saying this, but I think this is the time when it becomes more socially acceptable for clothes to get smaller and tighter. BUT kids listen to me, shirts need to at least go down to the top of your pants and your pants should cover your butt. Sheer tops are still unacceptable at this age. The words short and sexy should never be used in the same sentence at this age. I think tank tops, jeans, scarves, and a more grunge style has start to become acceptable.

18-27: At this age, it is less about finding your personal style but developing it. This tricky age is all about blending your past and your future. Probably the most experimental age in terms of fashion boundaries, it’s okay to mix styles like punk spikes and hippie floral prints. This is when the attribute of attracting a mate is the most prominent. So in short, sexy is okay. Parents, I know, but think about what you guys were doing at 22. Sheer tops, short skirts, and crazy prints (what I call “party prints”) are the name of the game. However, like I said, this style is about blending past and future styles. These are the ages when a professional style has to take root. Blazers and slacks with a cute chiffon blouse totally embody the professional women they have yet to become. So to blend these styles, a blazer might be worn on top of a bra with a semi-sheer maxi skirt can really turn heads.

Alexander Wang at POPSUGAR Shopping

28-32: This age is, I would say the latest you can pull off the super youthful prints and colors. By this time your style should be pretty solid. Toning down the sexy aspect of your wardrobe is crucial. Because, face it, we are in a world obsessed with youth. And complete sexy (with a few exceptions) can really only be successfully worn by the younger generations.

BCBGeneration Shirt – Sheer Back

BCBG MAX AZRIA at POPSUGAR Shopping

33-40: Not that I am saying that this is OLD, I’m NOT. This age can still be sexy but should more be highlighting your professionalism and cleanliness. Crazy prints and BRIGHT colors should be worn more as pops of color rather than entire garment colors. I think this age range needs to highlight well put together accessories. A fashionable ensemble with perfectly paired accessories complete a look. And since this age is less about experimentation, people expect these ages to look complete. Stomachs and Upper thighs should NOT be on display for the world to see, remember sophisticated is sexy too.
If you find this advice helpful and you don’t fit any of these age categories, post a comment and let me know! NO AGE IS TOO OLD FOR FASHION.

Oscars 2013 Worst Dressed

This year’s Oscars was filled with beautiful women in beautiful gowns, yet there were many looks that were tied for best dressed for me. There were also celebrities who I am sure did not look in the mirror before they left for the event. To see a gorgeous gown on the red carpet is always a given, but it’s always just as fun to see who made the worst dressed list. Right?
Oscars Sally Field
First on the worst dressed list for me is Sally Field. She’s an amazing actress, but this look made her look even older than she is. It wrapped her body really awkwardly.
Oscars Kristen Stewart
Next, is the girl who never seems to care what she looks like, Kristen Stewart. Honestly, Kristen looks like she just rolled out of bed and put on a gown. She could have cleaned this look up by doing her hair.
oscars helen hunt
Helen Hunt is also looking outdated in this dress that actually looks like a prom dress from 2001.
Oscars Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek to me is probably one of the most gorgeous actresses of all time, I love her, and her movies, but I think this outfit looks like a Halloween costume. The dress looks like it’s made out of cheap velvet, and the neck brace is not flattering to her at all.
What were your votes for worst dressed?

Oscars’ Biggest Stars Before They Were Superstars

On Sunday night, we watched as our favorite stars graced the red carpet at the Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Sketches of more than memorable designs from our favorite style icons lined the red carpet, paying homage to the superstars that made fashion what it is today. From classic stars like Katherine Zeta-Jones and Nicole Kidman to newer ones like Jennifer Lawrence and Amanda Seyfried, everyone brought their fashion A-game! As I was watching as each star was interviewed, I thought to myself, “I wonder what he/she looked like before they were famous?” I did a little digging and found pictures of these superstars before they were bedazzled on the red carpet. Enjoy!

The Oscars Best Dressed Nominees Are…

The most well-known actors and actresses arrived at the red carpet last night for the annual Academy Awards. The Oscars were created to celebrate the brilliance that people develop in the film industry each year, commemorating those talents that seem to stand out more than others. Additionally, they were also meant to showcase new talents that will someday impact the film industry.
